Who are the candidates challenging County Executive Angela Alsobrooks for her position? There are five candidates, including Angela Alsobrooks, who have filed to run for County Executive.

Januari McKay, a long-time advocate for those in Prince George’s County, and progressive, is running for state delegate in District 23B. She wants those who have been marginalized to be at the center of her politics and policies.

“….it is good to remember that the people who are going into the hospitals right now are probably infected with Delta. So we are in an odd place here in the United States. We are seeing new infections with Omicron, but the severe infections are probably driven by the Delta variant.”

On September 15, activists and community members gathered at the school to protest the presence of School Resource Officers — P.G. County police officers — in some schools throughout the county. Activists want police officers out of schools because they arrest Black children for minor infractions, contributing to the school-to-prison pipeline. Attendees used colored chalk to inscribe slogans (“Counselors No Cops,” “Police Free Schools”) on the concrete, and later marched while chanting “No Justice No Peace.”

“The study of reparations is still in its early stages, and the diocese has not made any official plans on how they would pay reparations to black people in America. Starting in April, the diocese will hold a workshop on reparations for its local parishes.”
